I am a Christian – no “buts” about it.

Recently, Buzzfeed posted a video about Christianity, featuring several “Christian” (I put this in quotations because these people have not truly repented and been washed by Christ’s blood, this is obvious.)  who go on a rant titled, “I am a Christian but I am not” and they list things that they are not, such as…

  • homophobic – note, I am against homosexual acts/marriage, but a phobia is a fear. They are obviously confused on this. Christian’s are not scared of homosexuals, nor do we hate them, we just hate their sin. It is obvious that they are talking about people who are against homosexuality and fighting against it.
  • against abortion
  • against feminism
  • judgemental
  • perfect
  • ignorant

The list goes on. Now, I was asked to watch this video by a follower of mine and, frankly, it bugged me. As Matt Walsh, a fellow blogger, put it in his post about this video, there are no “buts” in Christianity. You can not be a born again Christian if you go against every teaching of Christ. This Christianity that they are talking about is not true Christianity, they’ve made up this idea, this new religion, and they’ve stamped Jesus on it. But do not let them convince you that this is the way to salvation, or that this is even close to the gospel. The Bible speaks about every one of these topics; feminism, abortion, judging others, being imperfect, homosexuality, and so on. And every single thing that they defended, Christ Himself was against.

These people are painting over the true gospel and covering it up with their own words, and they will be judged for it.

Mark 7:6-9

And he said to them, “Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “‘This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ You leave the commandment of God and hold to the tradition of men.” And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition!

Christianity is not Christianity when you take away the blood of Christ (they never even mentioned His blood, or salvation.) or when you take away repentance. You can not be a true Christian if you wallow in your sin and say that it is okay. We all fall short, but believe me, you can not continue in sin and preach in favor of it. You can not be saved while you go against the Bible. This is nothing but liberal religion, created to tickle the ears of the people, it draws people in, it confuses people, and it is false prophecy. As Matt Walsh said,

If the homosexual embraces his temptations (or if anyone, gay or straight, engages in sex outside of marriage), we should not beat down his door and berate him. But if he opens the door of his own volition and proclaims to the world that God approves of what he’s done, then we must respond by saying emphatically, “no.” This is not our judgement, but God’s. And because God has told us His judgement, we are required to relay the information whenever someone attempts to sow confusion into the subject.

Folks. Fighting back against this..it’s not an easy fight. The church is so full of people who claim that you can be of the world, that you can commit homosexuality, be a worldly feminist, be pro-choice, go against the Bible, and be saved. It is full of people who are politically correct, and who stir up drama with the true believers. These people may very well believe in God, but they are not of God. They have not given themselves wholly to Jesus Christ, because they have not given up their flesh. They still follow themselves.

If you are living like the world and advertising sin, you are not Christ’s.

Amen! It makes me so angry as I read all these articles flowing around like this. I haven’t watched this specific video, but I have read many many articles. It is clear people do not understand the Bible, Jesus, or Salvation. On the other side, I do believe there are true Christian taking the “fight” of homosexual marriage too far. They understand the Biblical perspective, but they are not preaching Jesus’ love and forgiveness and offer of salvation. Instead they are “fighting’ and screaming about offensiveness and personal affronts and anger. These people, are unfortunately, who I believe the “Christian, but” people are talking about. It is so hard because I see it on both sides.

Good post Kalin! I haven’t watched that video, but I have heard about it, and it definitely sounds wrong. I like the little note you put next to “homophobic”.
By the way, nice blog layout! 🙂
